چکیده

Presynapticand postsynaptic glutamatergic modulation is associated with anti-depressant activity that takes several weeks to reach a maximal full effect [1]. Limiting mood elevating effects after single drug administration may be the result of compensatory synaptic processes [2, 3]. Therefore, using augmentation treatment with agents having presynapticand postsynaptic effects on the glutamatergic system (lamotrigine and memantine, respectively), this study aims to evaluate the effect of augmentation therapy on the rate of change in mood elevation in patients with bipolar depression.

The Efficacy of Pramipexole, a Dopamine Receptor Agonist, as an Adjunctive Treatment in Treatment-Resistant Depression: An Open-Label Trial

Dopaminergic dysfunction is implicated in the pathophysiology of treatment-resistant depression. Although the efficacy of adjunctive pramipexole treatment has been demonstrated in treatment-resistant bipolar depression, such data are scarce for major depressive disorder (MDD). We recruited 17 patients with DSM-IV major depressive episode who have failed to respond to previous treatment with a s...

Coincident glutamatergic and cholinergic inputs transiently depress glutamate release at rat schaffer collateral synapses.

The mammalian hippocampus, together with subcortical and cortical areas, is responsible for some forms of learning and memory. Proper hippocampal function depends on the highly dynamic nature of its circuitry, including the ability of synapses to change their strength for brief to long periods of time. In this study, we focused on a transient depression of glutamatergic synaptic transmission at...
